We are recruiting an IT System Administrator for an R&D company specialising in providing analytics and AI-driven solutions in the telecoms space. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies in an R&D setting.
The Senior IT Administrator role is ideal for individuals with experience in research and development (R&D) or academic settings, where innovation and continuous learning are highly valued. Our staff are tech-savvy, and this role's primary responsibilities include maintaining our existing systems, collaborating with engineering teams to establish new systems for upcoming projects, and providing occasional support for common issues such as password resets.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in Linux servers, operating systems (Redhat and Ubuntu), and Linux shell scripting. The infrastructure environment includes Windows laptops and a small number of Windows servers for specialized applications, so you must have experience with Windows support.
Hybrid working is promoted with one or two days in the Surrey office.
Requirements
- Serve as the main point of IT contact in the absence of the IT Manager, requiring a proactive and responsible approach to identifying and mitigating potential issues before they arise.
- A security-first mindset, with all tasks and processes executed in adherence to company security policies.
- Extensive experience across both Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Advanced proficiency in the Linux shell, with experience configuring network interfaces, and firewalls, managing software packages, performing OS upgrades
- Maintaining network hardware such as firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi APs, requiring a solid understanding of LAN/WAN networks and troubleshooting network services like DNS, DHCP, NFS, SAMBA, and SSH.
- Proficiency in Opensource tools like Git and Subversion.
- Experience with Microsoft cloud services, M365, SharePoint and troubleshooting problems remotely on Win10/11 systems is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Windows Active Directory, GPOs, and PowerShell is also desirable
