Despite South Africa being an emerging telecommunications market, there is still a lot of activity and growth happening when it comes to telecommunications jobs in South Africa. A recent article by Forbes stated, “5G is expected to contribute to around 0.4% of Africa’s GDP by 2030.” Whilst this is projected to be a relatively small percentage for the continent, the optimists will see the huge potential for growth! The roll out of 5G within Africa is inevitable and as mentioned in the aforementioned Forbes article “all eyes should be on South Africa as the early adopter.” 5G population coverage increased from 0.7% (in 2020) to 7.5% in 2021, and new predictions stated on the news website ITWeb puts that figure at 25% by the end of 2022, and 60% by2025 – just three years away!

What are the Hottest jobs in telecommunications in South Africa?

Sehlule Sel Ndlovu, one of our telecoms recruitment experts based in our Johannesburg office, commented: “In line with the growing demand for telecommunication jobs in South Africa, we have seen an increase in sales roles (predominately at manager level) as well as and ICT engineers roles.”

Telecoms companies who are currently recruiting are looking for ICT and developers who will design, build, and integrate multiple platforms into one, from a finance background. Some of the most in-demand jobs in telecommunications we are recruiting for currently are:

•Solution Architects (Design and Planning)
•Account Delivery Manager (Scrum master background)
•Integrators and Charging experts

However, despite the above telecoms jobs being in demand, this does not take away from the fact that the more traditional telecommunications jobs such as RF Engineers, Project Managers, and Field Engineers, are still being recruited. Within the South African telecommunications market, there are still networks that need upgrading and maintenance. We are always recruiting for site supervisor jobs (Transmission and RAN) as well as Implementation managers across South Africa and the wider African market.

The future of telecommunications within South Africa is looking very positive. With lots of recruitment activity currently happening and many companies beginning to look at their recruitment strategy for Q4 2022 and Q1 2023, we're looking to see how the telecoms market in Africa grows over the next six to 12 months. It’s a very exciting time if you are looking for a job in telecommunications in South Africa. If you’re interested in looking for new telecoms jobs in South Africa, please contact me.
